The Floating World 2004
Artist: Sam Tupou

“This work celebrates the notion of patronage within a community.  Set against the mountainous backdrop of this region this piece uses local symbols, motifs and patterns to explore ideas of leadership within the community and the desire to transcend the banality of every day life”.

Sam Tupou

The Floating World was commissioned to honour and thank the many supporters of the Centre of Contemporary Arts and its resident companies, both now and long into the future.

The CoCA Patrons Program is a high level support program, attracting benefactors and philanthropists from the local community and around Australia. The program incorporates various levels of support, Donor, Patron, Ambassador and Visionary.

The Floating Worldwill continue to grow and evolve as we incorporate the names of future patrons and supporters.

The JUTE Angels program supports the artistic programs of JUTE.  Numbers relate to seats in the JUTE Theatre “acquired” by supporters of JUTE.

It is a mature society that values culture in all its diversity.  It is a mature person that invests in society’s cultural assets, along with the material ones.

Keith De Lacy
Patron and Founding Chair of CoCA

As part of a team that spends every working hour being creative, I can’t get enough new ideas.
Artists inspire me, writers inspire me, and when objects or performances ask one to look at the world differently, I feel we all move forward as a culture.
In today’s world, ideas can circle the globe in a broadband hour. And as the creative economy becomes more important, we all need to participate.
So being a patron, to me, is a selfish way of making sure that the world remains an interesting place.

Ben Hale Patron

I receive so much pleasure in being able to escape to an amazing (and mostly locally produced) play, to wander through an art exhibit and even to admire the gorgeous cement floors that to be able to contribute to it is almost self indulgent.

Lea Ovaska
Patron

CoCA provides the Cairns Community an outstanding contemporary space to allow for the development and display of many exciting new artistic endeavours. I feel both proud and privileged to be a patron of CoCA and I look forward to continuing my association well into the future.

Hon Warren Entsch MP

The vision for CoCA in Cairns is inspired by your support, commitment and passion.  Thank you to all our patrons who share in this vision – now and in the future.
